NFL HEALTH AND SAFETY UPDATE—JULY 17, 2013

NFL FOUNDATION AND USA FOOTBALL HOSTING YOUTH SUMMIT

The NFL Foundation and USA Football are hosting a two-day youth summit this week for nearly 200 youth and high school football leaders from across the nation. The 2013 NFL Foundation-USA Football Youth Summit held in Canton, OH is an intensive educational program for people involved in youth and high school football to help enhance their understanding of key issues that affect the game at the lower levels.

Youth and high school football coaches, including former NFL players who are now coaching, are joined by youth football commissioners and athletic directors to learn the latest about health and safety, coaching technique and youth character development.

Presenters include:

  • DR. STAN HERRING, director of Sports, Spine and Orthopaedic Health for UW Medicine, the team physician for the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners and member of the NFL Head Neck & Spine Committee. He will discuss concussion treatment and prevention.
  • ROB HUGGINS, director of Elite Athlete Health and Performance at the Korey Stringer Institute will address the issues of heat and hydration in youth sports.
  • BILL PARISI, founder and CEO of the sports performance training business Parisi Speed School will speak about performance training methods for football.
  • TROY VINCENT, former player and current NFL Senior Vice President of Player Engagement will discuss the value of education.
  • ZACHARY MINOR, sports consultant and life skills coach, will lead sessions on character and life skill development
  • OLIVER LUCK, former NFL QB and current Heads Up Football Player Ambassador
  • GIL BRANDT, former NFL team executive and current NFL.com contributor
