The 2013 Super Bowl XLVII Sports Career Expo will feature an exciting new presentation called “You Make The Call” Officiating Clinic. The clinic is a new initiative presented by the NFL Football Officiating Academy to help spark the interest of future candidates on the grassroots level. The Football Officiating Academy is collaborating with Player Engagement through the Sports Career Expo to present officiating as a viable career in sports at this year’s Sports Career Expo. Through interactive panel discussions between NFL Director of Officiating David Coleman, Former New York Giants player David Tyree, Current Saints Player Corey White, and NFL Official Jerome Boger the Academy intends to accomplish the following objectives:
- Encourage participation in officiating by highlighting the benefits of staying connected to the game
- Educate participants about the available opportunities surrounding officiating in their area and throughout the nation
- Connect interested participants to a local scout and/or member of a local officiating association
- Serve as a support center through continual follow up and retention efforts
Ultimately the presentation will give the audience a unique “behind the scenes” perspective into the world of officiating. Through our collaboration it is our hope that we can enhance the pool of officiating candidates on a grassroots level and illustrate to PREP student-athletes how officiating can be a lucrative career that keeps you connected to the game long after your playing days are over.
