NEW YORK, NY January 30, 2014 – Players poured nonstop onto the NFL Player Engagement’s TV set today, starting with the likes of Levar Arrington in the morning and leading into the late afternoon with household names like Hall of Famer Mike Haynes.
And in between was a continuous stream of former and current players as “PE TV” captured new content through interviews conducted for the second straight day by former players Aeneas Williams and David Tyree.
With so many players filing through, PE provided support to Williams and Tyree by adding as hosts former NFLers Mike Quick and Keith Elias, as well as Cynthia Zordich, an Engagement Contributor for the NFLPE’s Women’s Resource Initiative (WRI).
Held again at the Player Engagement Corner on “Radio Row” in the Super Bowl Media Center, those NFL Legends interviewed included, among others, Gary Reasons, Ike Taylor, Christian Okoye, Ricky Watters, Chris Draft, Shaun O’Hara, Keith Bullock, Brian Mitchell, Robert Griffith, Matt Birk, Elias Campbell, Brian Baldinger, Chris Chester, Steve DeOssie, Greg Hardy, Zach Sudfield, Brian Scott, Kevin Reddick, Adrian Wilson, Quinton Coples, Leger Douzable, and Visanthe Shiancoe.
Additionally, wives of those who played were also interviewed on set, and featured among others, Leilah Tyree (wife of David), Chandra Hollier, Ericka Lassiter, Latasha Wilson-Batch, and Catherina Watters.
And that wasn’t all as even Super Bowl Winning Coach Dick Vermeil and former baseball star Daryl Strawberry made their way to the PE TV set for interviews.
The one-on-one conversations covered a wide variety of topics, ranging from the backgrounds and careers of the players to how they transitioned out of the NFL and into the lives they lead today.
Many have found significant success since leaving the game, and shared their secrets with advice like identifying other passions beyond football, having faith and humility, focusing on fitness, the value of networking, using NFLPE resources and attending programs, giving back, and enjoying family time.
All acknowledged that their time in the NFL was the perfect launching pad for the NEXT part of their lives, and put them in position for their present productive lives.
“Our second day in the Media Center clearly created a buzz within our player community as more and more made their way to our set and discussed all types of relevant topics, particularly their transition out of the game,” said Troy Vincent, Senior Vice President of Player Engagement.
Today’s activity followed yesterday’s announcement that NFLPE and AARP’s Life Reimagined were teaming up to support players in their post-game transition.
To kick off this significant news, CBS Broadcaster James Brown and NFL Hall of Fame Quarterback Dan Marino, who is also Life Reimagined Men’s Life Ambassador, teamed up with guests on the PE TV set to discuss the impact of this partnership.
